Thank you and competition time! Today marks a year of If You Film It They Will Come: The Film Tourism Podcast!
When I started this podcast last year I wasn’t sure where it would take me but I knew that I loved film tourism and that I wanted to do a deep dive into the places and people that it connects. Each conversation has been unique, enlightening, funny and special, and I am so excited for what comes next.
 
To celebrate the year anniversary I am running two competitions:
Competition 1 is to win a DVD copy of The Last of the Mohicans signed by Dougie MacLean whose song The Gael inspired the score for the film. 
 
Competition 2 is an audience member interview! When I listen to my favourite podcasters I always think how fun it would be to be one of their guests, and so I thought why not do it for If You Film It They Will Come?! Are you a film location owner, a film tour guide, or a film tourism fan? If so I would love to interview you!
 
Both competitions will be live on the If You Film It They Will Come Facebook and Instagram pages from Monday 28th September to Monday 12th October. Simply follow the guidelines in the following posts to enter and the winners for each competition will be picked at random.

September marks a year of the podcast and to celebrate I have been releasing an episode a week throughout the month. In this final celebratory episode I am in conversation with one of my all-time heroes, the incredibly talented and wonderful Scottish singer songwriter Dougie MacLean. We discuss the use of his song The Gael as inspiration for the score of The Last of the Mohicans, the importance of place, and the power of connection through music.
 
The conversation was recorded at Dougie and his wife the artist Jenny MacLean’s home so the recording is a bit more atmospheric than usual. Also full warning that we discuss the end scenes of the film so if you’ve not watched it yet then be aware of spoilers!

It’s an exciting time to be an Austen fan with the upcoming cinema release of Sense and Sensibility, the Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and the BBC Christmas special of The Other Bennet Sister. Welcome to If You Film It They Will Come, the film tourism podcast. In this episode I am in conversation with Dr David Gibson, Chief Executive Officer of Dartmoor Zoo in Devon, England. The Zoo was bought by Benjamin Mee and his family in August 2006 and Benjamin wrote about his experiences in the book We Bought a Zoo, published in 2008. Benjamin’s memoir inspired the 2011 film of the same name directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, and a whole host of excellent ensemble characters including Thomas Hayden Church and Elle Fanning.
 
 
David and I discuss the worldwide importance of zoological work, the conservation and protection of wildlife on a small and large scale, and a fantastic on-theme movie recommendation.
